Standaard Boekhandel acquires Standaard Uitgeverij 

Standaard Uitgeverij is a leading publisher with deep local roots. It is the home of Flemish cultural heritage, with iconic comic series such as Suske and Wiske, Jommeke and De Kiekeboes; operates internationally as a children’s book publisher under the Ballon Media brand; and represents several leading authors, including Jeroen Meus, Aspe and Mélissa Da Costa.

Level Next successfully advised the shareholders (including Dupuis and Média Participations) of Standaard Uitgeverij on the sale of their shares to Standaard Boekhandel. Standaard Boekhandel is by far the most important player in the Belgian book retail market, with a 47% market share and a network of 180 stores, including Librairie Club.

the two companies share a rich history dating back to the early twentieth century. After nearly half a century apart, they are now reunited. This combination of forces safeguards and strengthens the local anchoring of both players and reinforces the local character of the book sector.
